Macross

A.k.a Robotech in Western countries, this japanese animated TV show was firstly broadcasted in 1982 in Japan.
By concentrating extremely strong characters, a fully detailled universe and an extraordinary plot, MACROSS was sure to know fame and success.
Basing his story in an Science Fiction thema, the show provides unforgettable space battles and spaceships, the human famous U.N SPACY VALKYRIES and the SDF-1 MACROSS battleship against the frightening Zentradi giants fleet

The Universe is easily set but actually very complex.

The fall of an Ancient E.T battleship on Earth in 1999 A.D brought a tremendous technology to mankind. After 10 years of a planetary Civil War and the final unification of all the countries on Earth into the U.N Governement, the first flight of the E.T ship, nammed Super Dimensional Fortress 1 (or SDF-1) begins with the pilot of the show. But since nothing is simple in this world, the E.T Zentradi race appears to destroy the ship, remnant of an ancient civilization...

A good story is nothing withouth strong characters, MACROSS provides a melting pot of strong men and women taken in a space confilct which seems unbelievable.
  • Hikaru Ichijo, the "rookie hero" is a young civil pilot invited by his professor, Capt. Roy Fokker (the hero pilot, who seduces each girl he meets) to inaugurate the SDF-1 1st flight.
  • Lin MinMei (aka Minmay) is a young japanese-chinese girl who has voice talent and who lives in the Macross City, near the SDF-1 base, she seems to be the "romantic" girl of the show
  • Misa Hayase is the SDF-1 Flight Deck officer, who leads the pilots and the crew during military operations, she seems to be very rude and icy
  • Admiral Global, he's the Boss of the SDF-1 and a skilled military tactician, he leads the SDF-1 and the fleet against the Zentradi (he brings with him lots of humour scenes).
And the most interresting part begins with the appearance of a love story between characters. Personally, this is the first japanese manga where human relationships are so trully displayed on screen. The plot is really well written.

Of course, the other stars of the show are the aircrafts/mechs Valkyries (a.k.a VF for "Variable Fighter") which were a revolution in the world of mecha mangas in the 80's with the Gundam saga. They appeared to be very realistic and their design was set from the U.S Grumman F-14.
Seriously, the spacecraft totally rocks!
Music also takes an important side in the show.
"The action is nothing without a good music to illustrate it" said composer John Williams about the Star Wars saga...he was right. In Macross, music is such important that a character, Lin Minmei become the very 1st anime pop idol. Music appears to be a main part of the story end.

If you have never watched MACROSS, then you missed something HUGE!

My "Dear" New President

Today, I've decided to speak about my "dear" President, Nicolas Sarkozy.

Well, this man had led his political campaign on the thema "work more to gain more".
Okay, I agree...
but I'm not convinced about his aim for youth jobs...plenty of young french people can't find a job because of their "exotic" name, the color of their skin, and so on... Sarkozy, my "dear" President, wants to settle an "Affirmative Action Plan" to help us to get a job.
well fine...
However, I think it won't solve the problem 'cause the racial discrimination is very spread in french companies and a foreign name on a curriculum vitae often frighten the bosses. How can you prove you've been discriminated? There's no checking, no control in process of getting a job in France...I think there's a lack...

I'm a college student, and my "dear" President wants to change the university system, wich is almost dead: 50 per-cent of college students won't achieve their first Licence (aka Bachelor's degree) Year. Obviously, there's a problem...
University studies aren't a discount path... It must be the house of the alumni, the excellence, like in the USA or in UK. Sarkozy still do not presented his plan to reform the university system...hope he'll succeed. Wait And See...

My "dear" President also has plenty of reform plans in view, which could be effective with the majority of the UMP party (aka "Union pour la Majorité Présidentielle") in the Parliament.I have no doubt this majority will be effective on the next week end, as announced by everyone in the press...

I just hope the government will be responsible and sensible to the realities of the today's french society.

And it won't be good for the reforms if my "dear" President is drunk at a G8 meeting...watch the video

Just to add a music, this week I chose "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day" by Morcheeba...France wasn't built in a day too, but maybe my "Dear" President will help this country to get out of this economical shit.
